Oil-free compressed air – more sustainability for greater efficiency

Company

Working with compressed air is omnipresent in Tetra processes – from manufacturing fish food and liquids to food filling – and presents us with some very specific challenges. When compressed air comes into contact with machines, products and packaging materials, whether directly or indirectly, it soon leads to contamination due to residual oil content, micro-organisms, germs or exposure to moisture, which can affect the shelf life, taste, smell and consistency of fishkeeping products.

As the world’s leading fish food manufacturer, at Tetra we set ourselves high quality standards for our products. We are also certified according to the globally recognised IFS Food standard, which focuses on maximum safety and top quality of products and processes. To meet our own sustainability standards as well as the quality assurance requirements pursuant to IFS Food, in 2021 Tetra invested in innovative treatment systems which reliably remove oil impurities and water using catalysis technology, proving to be impressively cost-effective at the same time. Thanks to this transition to the new concept, we considerably reduced our compressed air costs in the first year. This highly positive result was also confirmed by continuous monitoring of the entire compressed air preparation chain.

With trouble-free treatment systems, safe processes and maximum energy efficiency, this new system is a real success.
